Meditation

Meditation

Meditation is one of the pillars upon which the School is built. It is offered to students of the School who wish to pursue further studies in Practical Philosophy.

When Maharishi Mahesh Yogi arrived in Britain in 1959, he brought the gift of meditation that he’d received from his teacher, Guru Dev.  This form of meditation was seen to be simple and suitable for a Western lifestyle.  It is known to have the same power as Patanjali’s system of yoga and was wholeheartedly embraced by Mr. MacLaren, the founder of the School.  In his generosity, Mr. MacLaren decided to introduce this system to the School. It remains as an essential activity of School members.

Using a very simple, gentle, mantra system, meditation brings peace, clarity, and extra energy when practiced properly.  Even though experience varies from person to person, those who meditate regularly have reported increased alertness, awareness, happiness, a brighter outlook on life, a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them, more tolerance and occasions of simple harmony and tranquility throughout the day. In due course, meditation helps to uncover that knowledge which allows one to live truly and happily.

The School provides on-going support for meditating students through regular Tutorials, Study Days and Retreats.
